The Calculation Method

How to find your tarot birth cards

This calculator follows The Tarot School birth-card method. It uses Major Arcana I–XXI, with Strength VIII and Justice XI. Other numerology traditions can produce different results.

  1. Split and add the date. Use month + day + the first two year digits + the final two year digits.
  2. Reduce a three-digit total. Treat its first two digits as one number and add the last digit. For example, 128 becomes 12 + 8 = 20.
  3. Find the combination. Reduce totals above 21 by adding their digits. Preserve a result from 10 to 21, then follow its digit reduction. If you reach a single digit, use its paired number from 10 to 18. A single 3 pairs with 12. A result of 19 gives 19 / 10 / 1.

Example: June 11, 1992

6 + 11 + 19 + 92 = 128
12 + 8 = 20
2 + 0 = 2

The result is Judgment (20) and The High Priestess (2). Their symbolism brings review and attentive listening into conversation.

Numbers And Discernment

Turn the result into a useful reflection

We approach numbers as part of divine order: patterns of beginning, growth, testing, and completion. God remains the highest source of wisdom. A birth-card combination can invite you to notice a theme in your experience while leaving room for conscience, choice, and change.

Begin with the card numbers and their traditional meanings. Then ask how the cards relate: where do they support each other, and where do they invite a different response? A theme such as patience becomes useful when you connect it to a conversation, commitment, or small action.

You might write: “Which quality could I practice today?” or “Where am I treating an old habit as something I cannot change?” Our guide to tarot numbers and full card meanings can help you take the reflection further.

For a question about what is happening now, you can also draw a daily card. Your birth cards stay tied to the same date and method; a daily draw offers a fresh point of reflection.

Common Questions

About tarot birth cards

What is a tarot birth card?

A tarot birth card is a Major Arcana card associated with the numerological reduction of your birth date. In the method used here, you receive a pair or, for 19 / 10 / 1, three cards. We use them as symbolic themes for reflection, with room for personal choice and growth.

How do I calculate my tarot birth cards?

Split the year into two two-digit parts, then add month + day + first year part + second year part. For a three-digit total, add the first two digits as one number to the last digit. Reduce totals above 21 by adding their digits. Keep a result from 10 to 21 and follow its reduction to a single digit. A single-digit result uses its paired card from the table. The calculator shows each step.

Why do I have two or three birth cards?

The Tarot School method connects a double-digit Major Arcana number with its single-digit reduction. Nineteen is the special three-card combination: The Sun (19), Wheel of Fortune (10), and The Magician (1).

Why do different birth card calculators give different answers?

Some methods add every digit of the date separately, while others group the month, day, and year parts. They may also handle single-digit results, 22, and card numbering differently. This calculator follows The Tarot School method and uses Strength as 8 and Justice as 11. Compare calculation methods before comparing results.

Can The Fool be my birth card?

The Fool is numbered 0 in the deck used here. This method uses positive Major Arcana numbers from 1 to 21, so The Fool is not a calculated result. Other traditions may use a different convention, such as numbering The Fool 22.

Do birth cards have upright or reversed orientations?

No orientation is assigned here because birth cards come from a date calculation. Start with their numbers and core symbolism. Their broader meanings can help you reflect on different expressions of a theme.

Do you store or send my birth date?

The calculation runs in your browser. This calculator does not send your birth date to our server, put it in the page URL, or save it to browser storage. The completion event records the number of result cards, without the date. If you request an optional AI reading, only the calculated cards and your question are sent to our server and Thinking Notes.

Can I get a personalized reading of my birth cards?

Yes. After calculating your cards, you can optionally ask a question for an AI-generated Thinking Notes reflection. The request uses your calculated cards and question, without your birth date. The calculation and written themes remain available without requesting a reading. Emailing a completed reading is optional.

Do I need my birth time or birthplace?

No. Enter the full Gregorian date on which you were born. If you celebrate a lunar-calendar birthday, use the Gregorian date of your actual birth, including the year.

Is my tarot birth card the same as my life path number?

They are different interpretive systems. A life path calculation can use different reduction rules, including master-number conventions. This tool calculates tarot birth cards only and does not label the result as your life path number.

Do these cards determine my personality or future?

A calculated card combination does not establish facts about your personality or guarantee events. Use its symbolism to ask useful questions about your choices and experience. In our God-centered approach, discernment, conscience, prayer, and practical responsibility remain central.
